Family firm celebrates a new era [September 2006]
Seamans Building is celebrating the official opening of a very special landmark project…its own headquarters in Great Green, Thurston.
The building – a former tractor shed – has been transformed into a glass and steel structure, and provides a new base for the Suffolk construction company and its 50+ employees.
Seamans’ relocation to Great Green is its first move since its launch in Stowmarket in 1912 and marks an exciting new era for the family business. |

Founded by builder Octavius Seaman in the early 20th century, the company has hung onto its traditional values by employing a team of professional and experienced craftsmen as well as investing in tomorrow through its ongoing apprenticeship & training programme.
Seamans has also adapted to meet the demands of the 21st century – bringing a fresh and contemporary approach to both commercial and residential developments, and winning an enviable reputation for it high management and craft standard.
The firm’s new Great Green home is an example of the firm’s modern commercial attitude…. transforming an unimaginative agricultural building into an eye-catching, practical and innovative workspace.
It’s this determination to preserve the traditions of yesterday in order to create the landmarks of tomorrow that has seen Seamans’ annual turnover build over £7 million – and the company aims to continue its competitive success across its Contracts, Special Works and Design & Build sectors.
Managing Director Duncan Haydon said: “Stowmarket had been our home for ninety three years so there were obviously mixed feelings about moving, but Prospect House opens a new chapter for us, allowing us to build on our local heritage and expertise. It’s an extremely exciting time for us.”
Over coming months, Seamans will be working on a number of high profile projects currently on the drawing board – from unusual smaller repair and renovation projects up to £3.5 million commercial contracts. |
