History

The ‘family factor’ gives Seamans an enviable track record within the local building industry – marrying strong family values and traditions with a fresh, commercial approach.

The company was founded in 1912 by Octavius Seaman.  Russell Seaman succeeded his father in the company and was joined by Mike Haydon, who took over the running of the company in 1976, when Seamans became a limited company.  Duncan Haydon became Managing Director in 2002, taking over the role from his father.

It’s this unique history that makes Seamans a true ‘family firm’, with those family values extending across it’s workforce which numbers in excess of 60.

Whilst Seamans has generations of experience to build upon, it’s also adapting to meet the demands of the 21st century  – moving from its historical home in Stowmarket to new purpose-built offices at Great Green, Thurston, near Bury St Edmunds, in 2005.

The company is rightfully proud of its history, even when embarking on an exciting new era, and offers clients the perfect marriage of strong traditional values with a commercial and contemporary attitude.
